OBJECTIVE To assess the one day nosocomial infection (NI) prevalence rates of internal medicine and surgical departments. METHODS By means of prevalence survey and investigation of bed-side and case recorder to study the one-day hospital prevalence. RESULTS Of the 1556 surveyed patients, prevalence rate was 4.43%, case prevalence rate was 5.21%, NI prevalence rate was 4. 9% in internal medicine department and 5.6% in surgical department (P〉0.05). The most prevalent infections found were different between internal medicine department and surgical department (representing 30.70% and 23. 1 %, respectively); the main pathogens were G bacteria; surgical department had higher percent of antibiotic usage than that of internal medicine department (51. 1 % vs 42.9%,P〈0.01),while internal medicine department had higher percent of antibiotic usage for treatment, also had higher rate of bacteria culture. CONCLUSIONS It is necessary to strengthen controlling of surgical site infections and the management of clinical antibiotic usage in some wards. |
