OBJECTIVE To study the epidemiology of varicella in Huangpu Hospital from Dec 2000 to May 2007. METHODS The data of varicella from Dec 2000 to May 2007 were analyzed. The chi-square test and Cochran- Armitage trend test were used to study the change of age, and circular distribution was used to evaluate the date of epidemic. RESULTS There were 1363 patients at all, and the average ratio of male/female was 1.36 : 1. Most of the patients were in the 2 to 10-year age group, there was a significant difference between 2 to 10-year age group and other age groups in total but it was towards a decreased proportion year by year from 2001 for the former group(P〈0.01). The proportion of over 18-year age group was towards increasing yearly from 2001 (P〈0.01). Most of the patients occurred on the winter and the spring, the commonest months for varicella were February and March. CONCLUSIONS Varicella occurs commonly at the age from 2 to 10-years-old group, but the proportion is towards declining and the proportion of patients over 18-year-old is increasing. |
