To determine the effects of aerobic exercise and lifestyle modifying education program on body composition, blood lipoprotein and insulin resistance, the obese middle aged women were tested : education and aerobic group (EAG, n=11), aerobic group (AG, n=11) and obese control group (CG, n=10). The aerobic exercise program was composed with 40-50 min/day at 50-75%HRR with 3-5 session per week and the exercise modes were treadmill running, bicycle ergometer and walking. The contents of this lifestyle modifying education were the concepts of sports medicine, the effects of physical activity and fitness, the exercise and degenerative disease, and the methods and techniques for lifestyle modification for health. After 12 weeks of program, body weight, BMI, %fat, waist and hip circumstance, HDL-C, LDL-C TC/HDL, LDL/HDL, hs-CRP, glucose, insulin and HOMA-IR had a significant main effect on period in both groups. Therefore, when compared between pre and post values in the same groups, %fat, waist and hip circumstance, HDL-C, LDL-C, TC/HDL, LDL/HDL and HOMA-IR in EAG and AG, hs-CRP in EAG and insulin in AG were significantly improved from baseline. Additionally, insulin and HOMA-IR had a significant interaction effect on exercise period and groups. Aerobic exercise and lifestyle modifying education program seemed to improve of body composition, lipoprotein profiles, atherosclerotic index, and insulin resistance in the obese middle aged women. However, the effects of EAG in this study looked like being caused from the aerobic exercise but not the lifestyle modification education program. |
