1. ASTAR package is an automatic crystallographic orientation tool (hardware+software) for index/phase identification orientation and phase mapping developed for any TEM. 2. Electron diffraction patterns are acquired thanks to (external/or on-line) CCD camera attached to TEM. 3. Conventional (or precession) spot ED patterns are generated at each point of the specimen through the whole sample(s); precise nanocrystal orientations (angular resolution < 1º ) and phase fingerprinting are obtained by comparing experimental spot diffraction patterns with pre-calculated simulated templates for every possible crystal orientation. 4. Image matching techniques are used to select template(s) with highest correlation index relative to experimantal ED patterns. |
